Common labeling terms in Food Regulations:

The below displayed terms play an important role in consumers selections of low-calorie, low-fat and light foods are reduced and less (fewer).” Moreover claim may be used if a food contains at least a 25 percent decrease of the given nutrient when compared to the reference food.

  • FAT-FREE less than 0.5 grams of total fat for a given position amount
  • CALORIE-FREE less than 5 calories for a given position amount
  • % FAT-FREE Products that are labeled as of __% fat free have to contain 3 grams or less of total fat for a given position amount. A “100% fat-free” claim may be made only on foods that meet the principle for “fat free” and also contain less than 0.5 grams of fat per 100 grams and have no added fat.
  • CHOLESTEROL-FREE less than 2 milligrams of cholesterol for a given position amount and 2 grams or less of soaked fat for a given position amount
  • SATURATED FAT-FREE less than 0.5 grams saturated fat for a given position amount, and no more than 0.5 grams of trans fatty acids
  • LOW-FAT 3 grams or less of total fat for a given position amount
  • LOW-CALORIE no more than 40 calories for a given position amount (except sugar substitutes)
  • LOW-CHOLESTEROL 20 milligrams or less cholesterol and 2 grams or less of soaked fat for a given position amount
  • LOW-SATURATED FAT 1 gram or less of saturated fat for a given position amount and not more than 15% of calories from saturated fat

Advantages and disadvantages of Inkjet Printers


Advantages of Inkjet Printers:

  • It can be low cost to buy and offer good resolution.
  • The printer can be used for other things while it is not required for labels.
  • Color in labels can be printed at a reasonable cost.

Disadvantages of Inkjet Printers:

  • Not as accurate as laser or thermal for barcodes. Because of the rough nature of the "Bleed" into the paper it means the barcodes may require to be printed at a larger size.
  • Reasonably slow to print.
  • Normal Inks will regularly run or bleed if exposed to water. Special Inks are more expensive.
  • Prints entire sheet of labels at a time, not perfect for small batches of labels.
  • Requires some drying time.
  • Ink cartridges for print labels can be expensive.

Advantages and disadvantages of Laser Printer

Advantages of Laser Printer:


  • Laser Printers present excellent declaration and the printer that can be used for other things when it is not necessary for labels.
  • Moreover it can be an economical way to print larger labels, ie either half or full sheet.


Disadvantages of Laser Printer:


  • Synthetic labels usually do not give good results in Laser Printer (the hot fuser can damage the label material).

  • Prints entire sheet of labels at a time; not perfect for small batches of labels.

  • You should not reload a partly used sheet of labels. The gum remains may be left on the rollers/drum etc inside the printer. This may leads to very expensive damage to your printer.

  • Color laser label printers are expensive to buy and run.
  • Printers with a difficult paper path may unintentionally peel off labels inside the printer.
